Maritsa Iztok is the largest coalmine in Bulgaria. The coals are located 60 meter underground and the layer of coal is around 20 meter. The coals are used for generating electricity by burning them. The coalmine provides 85 % of the country's energy. The US is the biggest stakeholder of this company. Many large excavators, up to 70 meter high, are working day and night.
