A veiled Afghan women on a bus. Afghan refugees are being forced to return home from Pakistan where they have lived for the the last few centuries. Most Afghans do not feel that Afghanistan is safe and will try to sneak back into Pakistan quickly. The UNHCR is supporting the policy of the Pakistani government. As part of it, all Afghans must register and ondergo an iris scan (of their eyes) to avoid fraud as refugees receive a cash bonus if they return to Afghanistan. Since 2001, 3 million Afghaan refugees have returned to Afghanistan. Those who had not returned by 1 Jan 2007, lost their refugee status.
